Free Shujinkou Manga Reader app arrives on PS5

Sony’s PlayStation Store now offers a free Shujinkou Manga Reader app for PS5. The app lets users read a one-shot Shujinkou manga on a television and is available to download at no charge.

The PlayStation Store listing describes the app as a companion to the JRPG Shujinkou and states the manga project was developed to introduce the game’s world, characters and story-driven RPG experience in a more approachable, story-first format.

At launch the app contains a single one-shot chapter. The developer states more manga stories and chapters are planned throughout the year. The publisher has not confirmed whether future chapters will be free or paid, and it has not provided release dates.

User ratings on the PlayStation Store average about 2.96 out of 5. Several reviews indicate some users expected a different product and expressed confusion over the app’s purpose.

The app functions solely as a manga reader and does not include interactive RPG features. The main Shujinkou game first released in 2025 and is currently offered at a discount on the PlayStation Store.

A PlayStation Store editor noted that comics and visual novels are more commonly experienced on handheld devices and tablets, and that reading a manga on a television can produce a different user experience. For now, the single chapter is available to anyone who downloads the app.
