GOALS launches free on Xbox with skill-first play

Free-to-play football GOALS launches on Xbox Series X/S June 4, using SENTEC netcode for instant inputs, unlicensed players and an online, skill-focused competitive design.

GOALS, a free-to-play online football game, launches on Xbox Series X and Series S on June 4 and is available across PC and console in a shared ecosystem. The developer positions the title as an online-first experience focused on head-to-head competition.

The studio says every input is instant thanks to its SENTEC netcode and that matches will be decided by player ability rather than hidden systems. Marketing material for the game states, “Every input is instant, every touch matters, every mistake is yours. With SENTEC powering the experience, there’s no delay, no excuses, no ‘the game decided it.’”

GOALS uses an Ultimate Team-style structure for squad building and progression but omits traditional single-player career content. At launch the core modes are ranked matches, tournaments and one-off duels. The developer plans to add 2v2 and 5v5 modes after release.

The studio highlights custom physics and AI intended to keep matches flowing. The game is free to play without paywalls and includes continuous updates, player growth systems and unique player identities. Matchmaking is described as focused on rewarding mechanical skill.

GOALS does not include licensed real-world players. The developer chose unlicensed characters so every in-game player is unique to a squad. The studio says each player will grow, peak and eventually retire, creating a changing roster over time.

The developer says the game is designed to support creators and organized competitive play from day one, with features aimed at tournaments and community events.

On the decision to keep outcomes tied to player performance, the studio adds, “No scripts. No hidden systems pulling the strings. In GOALS, the outcome is always in your hands — and your opponent’s. If you win, it’s because you earned it. If you lose, it’s because they were better.”
