God of War Laufey: Faye wakes in the Everywhen

Santa Monica Studio announced God of War Laufey for PS5. The game centers on Faye waking after her funeral in the Everywhen and fighting gods to protect Kratos and Atreus.

Santa Monica Studio announced God of War Laufey and opened wishlisting on the PlayStation Store. The studio said the mainline sequel for PlayStation 5 centers on Faye, who awakens after her funeral in a place the developer calls the Everywhen and must fight gods from multiple mythologies to protect Kratos and Atreus.

The studio released an extended interview with Game Director Ariel Lawrence and Head of Creative Cory Barlog alongside the announcement. Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye. The cast also includes Jack Quaid as Phranque, described as a protective cosmic cube, and Perlina Lau as Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian who watches over a powerful sword Faye uses soon after arriving in the Everywhen.

Santa Monica Studio described the Everywhen as an afterlife where magic concentrates and where gods and creatures from different mythologies meet and often clash. Early footage and studio materials showed encounters with figures identified as Sekhmet and Begtse and referenced Odin’s earlier search for knowledge about the fate of gods after death.

The developer said Laufey preserves the series’ core elements: close combat, exploration and a story-driven campaign. The team said it combined the movement and fluidity associated with the Greek-era games and the Norse-era approach to world design and character ties to shape Faye’s gameplay. The studio described combat for Faye as focused on speed, control and momentum, with seamless transitions between ground and air.

Faye’s role as the Golden Hand of the Jötnar is tied to both narrative and mechanics. The studio said her soul-manipulation powers are amplified in the Everywhen: striking her golden palm can detach an enemy’s soul, which players can attack directly or use to extend combos. The announcement also described a legendary sword Faye gains early, after Rue entrusts the blade, and said the weapon supports rapid, momentum-driven combat across arenas and aerial space.

The studio wrote it was “thrilled to finally share” the project and said it will provide further updates on gameplay, story and release timing in the months ahead. No release date beyond a PlayStation 5 window was announced.
