Gothic 1 Remake arrives on PS5 today at $59.99

Alkimia Interactive’s Gothic 1 Remake launched on PlayStation 5 today through the PlayStation Store. The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99. THQ Nordic confirms players who preordered the remake received the original Gothic Classic immediately as a bonus.

The remake, developed by Alkimia Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, rebuilds the 2001 action role-playing game from the ground up while aiming to preserve its original open-world exploration and progression. The PS5 release places players in the Valley of the Mines and updates core systems with a modernized combat system, new traversal abilities, branching story paths and a dynamic living world.

THQ Nordic described the remake as faithful to the original and highlighted non-player characters and wildlife that follow daily routines independent of the player. In a statement the publisher noted the remake expands questlines and adds NPC behaviors and reactions to increase immersion. The publisher added: “Gothic 1 Remake remains faithful to the original experience, rebuilding the game from the ground up while preserving its distinctive sense of unrestricted exploration and satisfying progression. The dark and gritty world of the Colony is richly detailed and immersive, with NPCs and wildlife following realistic daily routines independent from the player. While the core pillars of the game remain intact, the remake enhances the experience with expanded and more detailed questlines, additional NPC routines and reactions, new traversal abilities, and a fully modernized combat system.”

Only a Standard Edition is available at launch on PS5 for $59.99. THQ Nordic set July 28 as the standalone release date for the PS5 version of the original game, titled Gothic Classic, which will retail for $29.99. Players who preordered the remake received Gothic Classic immediately at no extra charge.

The original Gothic was developed by Piranha Bytes and released in 2001. On Metacritic the original holds an average critic score of 81 based on 14 reviews. The Gothic 1 Remake is available now as a digital release on the PlayStation Store for PS5.
