Gothic Classic (2001) debuts on PS5 and PS4

THQ Nordic released Gothic Classic for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 via the PlayStation Store, priced at $29.99. The release is the original 2001 game’s first official appearance on PlayStation consoles.

The PlayStation Store lists no launch discount and includes a trailer on the game’s store page.

The PlayStation Store description reads: “War has been waged across the kingdom of Myrtana. Orcish hordes invaded human territory and the king of the land needed a lot of ore to forge enough weapons, should his army stand against this threat. Whoever breaks the law in these darkest of times is sentenced to serve in the giant penal colony of Khorinis, mining the so much needed ore.” The release is labeled Gothic Classic and delivers the original game’s story and mechanics.

Gothic first launched on PC in 2001. The original title is noted for its open-world design and high difficulty level.

Player feedback on the PlayStation Store currently rates Gothic Classic 4.91 out of 5 stars. The more recent Gothic 1 Remake, available separately on consoles, holds a Metacritic average of 69 out of 100 for its PlayStation 5 version.

THQ Nordic also announced PlayStation release dates for the rest of the series. Gothic II Complete Classic will arrive on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on September 29, 2026, and Gothic III is scheduled for November 24, 2026, completing the trilogy on PlayStation consoles.
