GTA 6 may make escaping police harder

Police in GTA 6 may track suspects using their appearance, clothing, weapons, getaway vehicles and CCTV footage, according to newly reported game details.

Grand Theft Auto VI may make it harder for players to escape police after a crime. In the fictional state of Leonida, officers will track details including a suspect’s appearance, clothing and weapons. They can also use CCTV footage and information about getaway vehicles to identify and locate suspects.

The game’s police can determine whether a suspect acted alone or with an accomplice. The system may allow officers to continue searching after a player leaves the initial chase area.

In earlier Grand Theft Auto games, players could often evade police by leaving their line of sight and waiting for the wanted level to disappear. Police searches generally followed fixed areas or predictable pursuit patterns.

GTA 6’s single-player story will follow Jason and Lucia, a couple who work together on criminal activities. Rockstar Games’ official description says an easy robbery goes wrong and places them in a criminal conspiracy spanning Leonida.

Players will be able to take part in activities outside the main story, including scuba diving, airboating, jumping and kayaking. Other activities will include visiting zoos, exercising in gyms and competing in street and off-road races.

Rockstar Games is developing and publishing GTA 6. The game is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
