GTA V digital Xbox One, all PS4 owners get free Series X|S upgrade
Beginning tomorrow, Rockstar will let owners of any PS4 edition and the digital Xbox One edition of GTA V upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S at no extra cost.
Rockstar Games will allow owners of any PlayStation 4 edition and the digital Xbox One edition of Grand Theft Auto V to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost beginning tomorrow. Eligible digital owners should see the Series X|S build appear in their libraries when the upgrade goes live.
The free upgrade coincides with Rockstar’s reveal of The Kortz Center Heist for GTA Online, described as a multi-stage heist planned for release this summer. No firm release date has been announced for the heist.
Rockstar described the PS5 and Series X|S editions as offering technical improvements, easy migration of Story Mode and Online progress, and additional content. The publisher cited new items including Hao’s Special Works high-performance vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards and other features.
The Series X|S updates were first announced in February 2022 and were originally offered as a paid upgrade, priced at about £17.49 / $19.99 for owners moving from older consoles. Under the current arrangement, owners of qualifying PS4 copies and the digital Xbox One edition will receive the upgrade at no charge; the announcement specifies the entitlement applies only to the digital Xbox One edition, leaving physical Xbox One disc owners outside the stated eligibility.
Grand Theft Auto V launched in 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and has been reissued across multiple console generations while maintaining a persistent GTA Online component. Rockstar’s migration tools are intended to preserve player progress as users move to the newer hardware.
