GTA VI PS5 Codes Region-Locked; Xbox Codes Not
Rockstar Games confirmed GTA VI PS5 download codes will be region-locked while Xbox Series X|S codes remain region-free. PlayStation buyers are warned against mismatched boxed codes.
Rockstar Games confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI download codes will be region-locked on PlayStation 5 but not on Xbox Series X|S. The company warned PlayStation customers not to buy boxed download codes from retailers in countries that do not match their PlayStation account region, saying mismatched codes may fail to activate.
The restriction applies to PS5 download codes sold at retail and codes redeemed through the PlayStation Store. Rockstar did not provide a technical explanation for why the PS5 codes will be limited while Xbox Series X|S codes will remain region-free.
Rockstar published a country-by-country breakdown of where codes purchased in each region will work. Codes sold for Brazil are valid only in Brazil. LATAM codes are valid in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. North America codes cover Canada and the United States. Korea codes apply to South Korea. Japan codes are limited to Japan. United Kingdom codes are valid only in the United Kingdom. Codes sold for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are valid in those two countries. A Rest of Asia category covers Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. A Rest of EMEA and Asia category covers Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.
Product codes issued in Japan will expire 170 days after the issuance date. Rockstar tied that time limit to regional regulations and indicated the issuance date corresponds to the game’s launch date, which the company has listed as November 19, 2026.
PlayStation users who buy boxed PS5 codes from a retailer in a different country than the region on their PlayStation account may be unable to redeem or activate the game. The publisher framed its guidance to help buyers match boxed code purchases to their console account region before launch.
Rockstar did not state whether the policy could change or whether exceptions will be offered. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch in November 2026.
