Report: Halo 2 and Halo 3 Remakes Are in Early Development

A report says Halo Studios is developing remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3, and a source provided verification to the reporter that both projects are in early development. Microsoft has not independently confirmed the work on either title.

Microsoft has publicly confirmed only Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original 2001 game, and noted during a 2024 Halo Studios rebrand that multiple projects were underway. Campaign Evolved is expected to mark the series’ 25th anniversary, with rumors placing its release in summer 2026.

The recent report did not include release dates or detailed timelines for Halo 2 or Halo 3. The source is quoted as saying, “The Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes are definitely happening,” and that “active development is underway; they are in early development.”

Halo 2 originally launched in 2004 and Halo 3 in 2007, which would place their 25th anniversaries in 2029 and 2032. Given the description of early-stage work and typical development schedules, any released remakes would likely arrive several years from now.

The report offers no information on target platforms, the technical or design scope of the remakes, or whether the projects will follow the same approach used for earlier franchise updates. Microsoft has not provided additional details on teams, budgets, or timelines.

Previous entries in the franchise have received refreshed releases through collections and remasters. At present, Campaign Evolved remains the only Halo remake officially confirmed by Microsoft.
