Halo: Campaign Evolved 60 FPS on Series X; 30-40 on Ally X
Early tests show Halo: Campaign Evolved runs at a stable 60 FPS on Xbox Series X performance mode using dynamic resolution. A ROG Ally X handheld reaches about 30-40 FPS on Very Low.
Early pre-release testing examined Xbox Series X and PC builds of Halo: Campaign Evolved ahead of its early access release on July 23. Tests focused on the Series X performance mode and a PC handheld.
On Xbox Series X, the performance mode maintained a steady 60 frames per second. The build includes hardware ray tracing and several advanced Unreal Engine features. To reach 60 FPS the game applies two levels of dynamic resolution scaling that average about 50–75 percent of the output resolution, frequently placing the rendered image near 1080p.
The build includes a variable-resolution translucency pass that reduces the cost of transparent effects when frame time is limited, helping keep frame rates steady without lowering the main render resolution.
Only performance mode was available in the tested Series X build; a Quality Mode is planned for the final release. The Xbox Series S version was not included in the footage and was described as “technically playable” but not ready for review.
On PC handheld hardware, the ROG Ally X ran the game at roughly 30-40 FPS on Very Low settings. Testers noted that lower-power handhelds of similar class are unlikely to hold a steady 30 FPS at the current stage.
Testers described the Series X performance as “very, very stable” and highlighted the scaling techniques as a method to preserve frame-rate consistency while keeping higher-resolution rendering for the main scene.
These results are based on early builds and may change before the game’s early access release on July 23. Wider comparisons across Xbox Series X, Series S and a broader range of PC hardware are expected after release.
