Hayley Atwell to play villain Isabel in Fable cast reveal

At the Xbox Games Showcase, developer Playground Games released a story trailer for Fable and confirmed a principal cast led by Hayley Atwell as the game’s antagonist, Isabel. The studio also named Lily Nichol, Ukweli Roach and Matt King among the lead performers.

The trailer combined gameplay footage with narrative scenes, including clashes with Balverines and an encounter with a giant toad. The segment featuring Isabel frames several of the story beats. The presentation indicated the game will include coarse language and dark humour.

Craig Owens, associate narrative director on Fable, described Isabel as “a driven, powerful Hero on a quest to make right a tragic injustice.” Owens credited Atwell’s classical training and her work in both performance capture and voice sessions for the casting decision.

Lily Nichol and Ukweli Roach will provide the voice and performance capture for the Hero of Briar Hill, the player-controlled character whose choices determine moral alignment and relationships. Owens said the two actors brought range and charisma that help the Hero reflect player decisions.

Matt King appears as Humphry, a former celebrated champion now semi‑retired. Owens highlighted King’s mix of comic edge and emotional depth for the role.

Other cast members announced include Susan Wokoma as Arden the Cobbler, a reluctant Hero haunted by past mistakes; Richard Ayoade as Dave, a curmudgeonly intellectual who grows to giant size; Natasia Demetriou and Nathan Foad as feuding Bloodstone heirs Jenny and Jacob; Kwame Augustine as Connor, the Hero’s adoptive brother; Nina Wadia as Samira, the player’s adoptive grandmother and village landlady; and Robert Whitelock as Nigel, the well-meaning sheriff.

Publisher materials describe Fable as a rebooted open-world action role-playing game in which player choices affect reputation, relationships and the environment. The game will offer melee, ranged and magical combat, character customization, property ownership, romances and systems that let players influence towns and factions.

Fable is scheduled for release on February 23, 2027, with early access to the Premium Edition beginning February 18, 2027. Platforms listed by the publisher include Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Xbox Game Pass, Steam and PlayStation 5.
