Helldivers 2 surprise-added to PS Plus Extra and Premium

Sony Interactive Entertainment added Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogs today, arriving ahead of other August additions.

The release coincides with the Devoid of Liberty update. Sony wrote: “Getting into the Void presents a unique challenge. High Command has ordered reconnaissance missions to gather as much intel as possible in order to give us an advantage.” The company also described changes to planets near the Void and new enemy types.

Devoid of Liberty opens access to an area called the Void and introduces new missions and adversaries designed for altered environments. Sony directed players to the PlayStation Blog for detailed notes on mission structure and enemy behavior.

Helldivers 2 is available immediately to Extra and Premium subscribers rather than following the staggered regional schedule Sony will use for other August releases. Exact availability may vary by region.

Sony confirmed it will announce the full PS Plus Extra and Premium August lineup and release schedule later today, and said a remastered or reissued PS2 title will arrive for Premium subscribers on August 18.

Helldivers 2 launched as a PS5 action title and has received regular updates since release. The game’s addition places it in the Extra and Premium libraries for subscribers at no extra cost beyond their subscriptions.
