Infinity Ward Confirms 2026 Modern Warfare as Next-Gen Exclusive

Infinity Ward confirmed it is developing a new Modern Warfare set for 2026, describing the game as a “visceral, immersive” experience and saying the studio is focused on passion, precision and obsession.

The announcement appeared during the revived Call of Duty podcast and was followed by posts from the studio on social media. The team published a mission statement outlining its approach to the project, including the line: “WE ARE INFINITY WARD. We build visceral, immersive combat experiences that hit different.”

The statement added that the next game is “Determined. Bold. Relentless. Built by a team pushing every detail, every system, every moment to its limit.” The note closed with a sign-off attributed to “Mark and Jack, Studio Heads IW.”

Infinity Ward presented the project as a return to the studio’s focus on systems design, high-fidelity combat and standout narrative or gameplay moments. Reports indicate the 2026 entry will not be released for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and will target current-generation consoles and PC to maximize technical performance.

Marketing activity has increased since the announcement. The timing of the teaser suggests a formal reveal could arrive at the Xbox Games Showcase next month, with a dedicated Call of Duty event possible later in the summer to detail campaign, multiplayer and live-service plans.

Last year’s Black Ops installment received a mixed reception among players and critics. Infinity Ward has been the primary developer for the Modern Warfare sub-series and has led several of the franchise’s most commercially successful entries.

The studio did not disclose further technical details, platforms, or specific release timing. More information is expected in the weeks and months ahead as Infinity Ward moves from teaser messaging to formal reveals.
