IO Interactive posts 13-minute opening of 007 First Light

IO Interactive released the first 13 minutes of 007 First Light after some retail copies shipped early; physical discs require a day-one patch to access most of the campaign.

IO Interactive published roughly the first 13 minutes of 007 First Light online on Monday after reports that some retail copies reached players before the planned launch. The studio said physical discs do not include the full campaign and require a day-one patch to access most of the game.

Players who received early discs could boot the game but could not reach the bulk of the story without downloading the launch patch. IO Interactive confirmed the disc lacks the majority of campaign files and that a substantial portion of the title is delivered in the initial update.

In a developer Q&A, IO Interactive addressed online-play concerns, explaining that the title is not always online and that the initial patch is needed to “get the actual game.” The studio added that after downloading the launch update, players may disconnect and play offline.

The studio released the opening sequence publicly to limit the spread of unplanned spoilers ahead of the official release on May 27, when pre-order customers receive 24-hour early access. The posted clip shows the game’s opening chapter but does not replace the full release, which remains locked behind the launch patch.

Those who buy physical copies at launch will still need to download the day-one patch to play the campaign as intended.
