IO Interactive delays 007: First Light on Switch 2

IO Interactive pushed the Nintendo Switch 2 release of 007: First Light to late summer to improve the port’s performance and polish, CEO Hakan Abrak explained.

IO Interactive moved the Nintendo Switch 2 launch window for 007: First Light to late summer to allow more time for engineers to refine performance and polish.

The studio originally targeted a summer launch but now expects the release window to shift to late summer and will set a firm date when developers consider the port ready.

CEO Hakan Abrak explained the change aims to prevent a subpar version on Nintendo’s new hardware. “We just want to make sure it’s good as it can be,” Abrak explained. “I don’t want to hear it wasn’t a good version,” he added.

Abrak framed the decision as a quality-control choice that affects only the Switch 2 release, not a cancellation or major redesign.

Abrak also referenced the franchise’s relation to Nintendo and pledged to use his role to improve the release. “Bond has a special place on Nintendo,” Abrak noted. “I promise I will do everything I can, and I can do quite a lot being the CEO, to get that in a great shape,” he added.

The studio has not announced a specific new release date or detailed technical targets. The company will provide further updates on download and physical release plans when the team is ready.

The delay follows a pattern of developers taking extra time to optimize games for new hardware to improve stability and visual quality.

IO Interactive plans to publish a firm date once its internal standards for the Switch 2 port are met.
