Jonathan Blow’s Order of the Sinking Star coming to PS5
Sony wrote that Jonathan Blow’s puzzle game Order of the Sinking Star will arrive on PlayStation 5 later this year; it was first announced for PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
Sony wrote on the PlayStation Blog that Order of the Sinking Star will arrive on PlayStation 5 later this year. The game is developed by Thekla, Inc. and directed by Jonathan Blow, who previously released Braid and The Witness. Thekla first confirmed the title for PC and Nintendo Switch 2 when it was revealed at The Game Awards last year after more than a decade in development.
Thekla describes the game as a narrative puzzle adventure built around more than 1,000 hand-crafted puzzles and dozens of game mechanics. Players move between four distinct worlds, each with its own rules, characters and hazards. The developer’s description says puzzles and systems from different worlds can interact as the story progresses, creating new combinations of mechanics.
Thekla characterized the experience as open exploration, allowing players to revisit worlds and tackle puzzles in different orders. The studio says the game contains hundreds of hours of content driven by mechanics that build on earlier puzzles.
Playable characters listed by the developer include a queen, a thief, a warrior, a wizard and a talking boat. Each character has complementary abilities and narrative threads that connect when characters meet.
Additional features noted by the developer include layered puzzle systems that introduce new mechanics over time and an interconnected story revealed through gameplay and collectible notes. Thekla described the title as a long-form puzzle experience in which puzzle systems evolve and interlock as players progress.
The PlayStation Blog named PlayStation 5 as a target platform for this year’s release window but did not provide a specific release date. The post also did not include pricing, or details about cross-save, cross-buy or platform-specific features. Thekla has provided periodic public updates during the project’s long development cycle.
