July PS5 Update Arrives — Mostly Performance Fixes
Sony released PS5 system software 26.04-13.42.00 on July 1, 2026. The ~1 GB update lists performance and stability improvements, leaves the Recently Played bug unfixed and adds a GTA VI Welcome Hub overlay.
Sony released PS5 system software update 26.04-13.42.00 on July 1, 2026, for PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. The download is roughly 1 GB and installs via the standard over-the-air update process.
The official patch notes read: “We’ve improved system software performance and stability.” That brief wording is commonly used for minor fixes and security patches.
The firmware does not resolve a Recently Played bug that has affected many users for over two weeks. Affected players report the Recently Played list fails to register games they have played for at least a month, which prevents tracking campaign progress and trophies through that section.
The update adds a Grand Theft Auto VI overlay to the PS5 Welcome Hub and changes the PlayStation Store search bar to use GTA VI’s color scheme while searching for games. Users have not reported other significant feature additions since installing the patch.
After installing the update, affected users continue to report the Recently Played list remains frozen. The patch notes do not include a timeline for a targeted fix.
The update is available now as an over-the-air download for PS5 and PS5 Pro systems. Installing the patch requires the usual system restart and a download of about 1 GB.
