Kena: Scars of Kosmora delayed to 2027 for PS5

Ember Lab moved PS5 action-adventure Kena: Scars of Kosmora from 2026 to 2027 to allow extra development time to expand and polish the game.

Ember Lab pushed the PlayStation 5 action-adventure Kena: Scars of Kosmora from a planned 2026 release into 2027, the studio announced in a post on the PlayStation Blog on Thursday. The developer said the additional time will be used to expand the game and refine its systems and presentation before launch.

No specific 2027 release date was provided. Ember Lab noted that players can add the title to their wishlist on the PlayStation Store while the team continues development.

The sequel follows a more experienced Kena, who travels to the island of Kosmora seeking a cure for an affliction and to reconnect with a friend from her past. The narrative shifts when she discovers the island holds buried secrets. Ember Lab describes the game as a character-focused, linear adventure with a broader scope than Kena: Bridge of Spirits, retaining its focus on exploration, combat and story.

New gameplay features include elemental Spirit Companions that assist Kena in combat and puzzle solving. These companions gain abilities over time, allowing access to new areas and different approaches to encounters. The island contains four interconnected cultures, each associated with one of the four elements, and Alchemystic Temples that function as challenge-filled dungeons.

The sequel also adds a crystalline canine companion. According to the blog post, the dog helps in combat both on foot and while mounted and assists with environmental puzzles.

Ember Lab did not provide details about internal schedule changes or public development milestones. The studio said the extra development time will help the team build on the original game’s experience and deliver a more polished release in 2027.
