Square Enix confirmed KINGDOM HEARTS IV will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 at the console’s launch and showed new gameplay during Nintendo Direct. The company did not provide a release date and said the Switch 2 edition will arrive simultaneously with versions for other platforms.
The gameplay segment offered a first look at Quadratum, an urban setting where protagonist Sora meets new characters. Footage showed Sora moving through city streets and interiors and hinted at abilities tied to the setting. Square Enix described KINGDOM HEARTS IV as “a new installment in the action role-playing series” that gives players a look at some of the characters Sora will meet in the mysterious city of Quadratum.
Square Enix also confirmed several earlier franchise entries will be playable on Switch 2 at launch: KINGDOM HEARTS – HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III with the Re Mind DLC. The company indicated those collections will be native Switch 2 releases rather than cloud-only versions, and that the titles can be purchased together.
The announcement did not include platform-specific performance details, multiplayer information, or a marketing timeline. Nintendo revealed the Kingdom Hearts news as part of its lineup for the new hardware. Further updates on release timing and technical specifications are expected from Square Enix and Nintendo.
