Kingdom Hearts IV to Launch on PS5 in Late 2027
Square Enix announced at Disney’s D23 that Kingdom Hearts IV will launch on PlayStation 5 in late 2027.
Square Enix used Disney’s D23 fan event to confirm that Kingdom Hearts IV will launch on PlayStation 5 in late 2027. The company released an extended trailer and new gameplay details but did not provide a specific release date, other platforms, or regional timing.
The game is set in Quadratum, described as a modern metropolis. An official overview reads: “Our hero Sora awakes in the unfamiliar world of Quadratum. As he looks for a way to return from this modern metropolis to his own world, his friends Donald and Goofy head for the Underworld in hopes of finding a clue to his whereabouts.” The studio also confirmed that Disney and Pixar’s Coco will appear in the game.
Square Enix outlined combat changes focused on faster, more fluid encounters. The publisher described a “dynamic, fast-paced battle system” that allows players to combine attacks and magic and build combos with a new battle feature. Players can change Sora’s Keyblade during fights to access unique attacks suited to different strategies and situations.
A late-2027 release window could allow time for a physical disc launch, since disc production normally requires final assets before early 2028. Square Enix has not confirmed whether Kingdom Hearts IV will be released on disc, digitally, or both.
The announcement follows several years of limited official updates about the next mainline Kingdom Hearts entry. Square Enix did not reveal pre-order timing, special editions, or cross-platform plans at D23.
Square Enix indicated it will provide more information as it becomes available. Fans and analysts will look for a precise release date, platform confirmations, and additional gameplay footage ahead of the late-2027 window.
