Mojang and Warner Bros. announced the sequel’s official title, A Minecraft Movie: Squared, and confirmed a July 23, 2027 theatrical release. The update and a refreshed logo were revealed during Minecraft Live at TwitchCon Rotterdam. Production is reported to be back on set.

Kirsten Dunst will portray Alex, a character that was teased in the first film. English actor Matt Berry, credited as a villager in the original movie, is confirmed to return. The companies have not released a full cast list or plot summary.

Mojang opened an in-game build challenge tied to the film. Players can submit builds on the official movie build challenge map. The studio will select finalists and the community will vote for a winner. The selected build will appear in the movie or in the end credits.

Further casting announcements and promotional materials are planned as production progresses. The sequel follows the earlier film and continues to involve community-built content in its production and promotion.
