Kojima’s Physint Likely to Become Xbox Exclusive
Physint, announced as a PlayStation exclusive in January 2024, is expected to appear on Xbox after PlayStation Studios canceled the project and Microsoft agreed to support it.
Kojima Productions’ game Physint, first announced as a PlayStation exclusive in January 2024, is now expected to appear on Xbox after PlayStation Studios canceled the project in mid-June and Microsoft agreed to support it.
Hideo Kojima wrote that his studio ‘unexpectedly’ received a notice from PlayStation Studios in mid-June informing them the project was canceled. Kojima Productions spent several months seeking a new publishing partner before reaching an arrangement with Microsoft. Xbox chief Asha Sharma has been named as supporting the title.
PlayStation posted a brief statement on social media that suggested the decision to part ways with Kojima Productions was mutual. The company has not provided a detailed explanation for canceling the agreement or for transferring the project.
Kojima Productions confirmed the project will continue with Microsoft’s support. Neither PlayStation nor Microsoft has released a development timeline, technical details, platform list or a projected release window for Physint.
Fans responded on social media and via annotations under PlayStation’s post, criticizing PlayStation Studios’ communication and the cancellation. Some users linked the announcement to Sony’s plan to end video game disc production in 2028 and called for changes at PlayStation Studios, including naming Hermen Hulst.
PlayStation has not publicly explained its rationale for ending the collaboration. Microsoft has not outlined how it will integrate Physint into its release schedule or whether the title will be exclusive to Xbox platforms.
Both companies may provide further details in the coming weeks. We will update this article when additional information becomes available.
