Bad LA Commute Shaped Arjun’s Voice in PS5 Saros
In a making-of video for PS5 exclusive Saros, actor Rahul Kohli says a rushed recording after being stuck in Los Angeles traffic produced the angrier, more intense voice used for protagonist Arjun Devraj.
Sony and Housemarque released the first episode of a behind-the-scenes documentary for the PS5 exclusive Saros that focuses on lead actor Rahul Kohli and his work on protagonist Arjun Devraj. Kohli describes how an unplanned, high-energy take became the vocal template for the character.
Housemarque needed audio for the game’s teaser and could not record with Kohli for the next six months. To catch a flight, Kohli set up a session on the other side of Los Angeles and ran into heavy traffic. “I was so worked up and angry,” he recalled, and that feeling carried into the recording. Kohli said the resulting delivery was “angrier, more intense than anything we’d done or explored previously.” The team adopted that take for the teaser.
Director Gregory Louden reacted immediately when he heard the recording. “Wait, that’s him. That’s who we’ve been looking for,” Louden said, according to the video.
The episode includes performance-capture footage and scenes from recording sessions. Producers used the captured physical performance alongside Kohli’s vocal choices to align timing and expression, aiming for a consistent portrayal of Arjun across animation and sound.
Saros is presented as a major PS5 exclusive, and the making-of series will run additional episodes. The first installment documents the accidental origin of a key vocal choice and promises further looks at casting, direction and production methods.
