TT Games’ Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight pairs Arkham-style counter and takedown combat with open-world exploration in Gotham. The game will launch on Xbox Series X|S on May 22, with the Deluxe Edition available May 19.

The campaign follows Bruce Wayne’s origin through training with the League of Shadows and the formation of a new Bat-Family. Players move between linear story missions and free-roam play across a sprawling Gotham City and a large Batcave hub.

Combat uses visible on-screen indicators for counter and takedown opportunities that let players chain counters, stealth takedowns and gadget use, including batarangs and a grappling hook. The game offers three combat difficulty settings to adjust challenge levels.

Seven playable characters are available at launch: Batman, Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman and Talia al Ghul. The base game includes 100 unlockable suits inspired by 86 years of Batman media, more than 20 vehicles including multiple Batmobiles and Batcycles, and over 250 Batcave props and trophies for customization.

Open-world activities include races, puzzles and other challenges. Players traverse the city by grappling up skyscrapers and gliding, or by driving vehicles retrieved from the Batcave, which functions as a hub for vehicles and display items.

During a hands-on session, a sequence in a nightclub included the line “This is how Batman begins… to dance!” before a short choreographed moment that leads into combat. The game contains visual gags and references drawn from Batman comics, films and television.

Visually, the game adopts a polished material look with improved textures intended to represent plastic and fabric, including a matte finish on Batman’s cowl and a cape with fabric-like shading.

Previewed boss encounters combined platforming and puzzle elements with brawling, including a sequence against Poison Ivy and a plant-based dragon.

The Deluxe Edition, available for pre-order, grants three-day early access and three launch-day themed packs: Arkham Trilogy Pack, Batman Beyond Pack and Party Music Pack, which together add more than 30 items across suits, vehicles and Batcave props. Warner Bros. Games lists the Deluxe Edition at $89.99 and the standard edition at $69.99. A Mayhem Collection slated for September 2026 will add a new story mission and a Mayhem Mode focused on The Joker and Harley Quinn; that collection is included with the Deluxe Edition.

TT Games describes the title as a narrative-led action-adventure. The story campaign puts the Bat-Family against villains such as The Joker, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy and Bane.
