LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight builds open-world Gotham
TT Games’ LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on PS5 features an open-world Gotham split across islands, seven playable characters with skill trees, Arkham-style combat and hundreds of collectibles.
TT Games’ LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on PS5 places players in an open-world Gotham split across islands and districts that unlock as the campaign advances. The game’s chapter-based missions draw on scenes and characters from decades of Batman comics, films and past video games.
Players can glide from rooftops, use a grapple gun to move across the skyline and drive a variety of vehicles to reach objectives. The open world combines rooftop traversal, vehicle travel and interior set pieces tied to the main story chapters and side activities.
The playable roster is seven characters, each with a distinct ability set and its own skill tree. Abilities apply to combat and to environmental puzzles, and each character gains exclusive moves alongside universal combo mechanics.
Combat uses combo chains that build to cinematic takedowns, following mechanics similar to those in the Batman: Arkham series. Many character-specific abilities temporarily stun enemies and produce similar effects in fights, which can make extended combat sequences feel repetitive for some players. Puzzles and cutscenes interrupt combat and vary pacing.
Hundreds of collectibles are placed across districts and linked to side activities such as races, combat trials and puzzles. The Batcave functions as the central hub where players manage items, customise the base and use terminals to track progress and purchase suits, vehicles and other unlocks with in-game currency.
On PS5 the game offers Performance Mode, targeting 60 frames per second, and Quality Mode, targeting 30 fps. Performance Mode generally provides a playable frame rate but can stutter in crowded or action-heavy moments. Quality Mode prioritises visual detail and can produce heavier frame pacing during busy scenes. Gotham is rendered in detailed LEGO bricks with notable lighting on night-time cityscapes and interior locations.
The PS5 DualSense controller receives haptic feedback and uses adaptive triggers for several interactions. The studio reduced the overall character roster compared with earlier titles and focused on expanding the open world and deepening individual character mechanics.
