Lufia I & II coming to PS5 in 2027 collection

Taito and Clear River Games will release Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga on PS5 in 2027, bundling the 1993 and 1996 Super Nintendo RPGs; Switch, Switch 2 and PC versions are planned.

Taito and Clear River Games announced Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga, a collection that brings Lufia & the Fortress of Doom (1993) and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (1996) to PlayStation 5 with a 2027 release window. Clear River Games will publish the package in Western markets. Versions for Nintendo Switch, the next-generation Switch 2 and PC via Steam are scheduled as well. Exact release dates and pricing have not been provided.

The PlayStation Store listing describes both titles as “enhanced for modern play.” Neither publisher has detailed the technical updates, visual upgrades or gameplay changes that will be included in the collection.

Lufia & the Fortress of Doom follows a descendant of the legendary hero Maxim and his childhood friend Lufia as they confront the returning Sinistrals. During the story Lufia is revealed to be Erim, the Sinistral of Death; she defies that fate to help defeat the villains and is later reborn as a human. The original game was released for the Super Nintendo in 1993.

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, released in 1996, serves as a prequel. It centers on Maxim’s journey to stop newly emerged Sinistrals, joined by his wife Selan and several allies. The party travels to the floating Doom Island, defeats the antagonists and sacrifices themselves to steer the island away from destroying the world below. The events of Lufia II take place before those in Fortress of Doom.

The publisher described the release as “a collection of two of the fondest remembered JRPGs of the 1990s, whose moving storylines and memorable soundtracks touched the hearts of players around the world.” Further announcements from Taito and Clear River Games are expected to confirm release dates, prices and the specifics of the “modern” enhancements.
