Luna Abyss loses entire nine-person dev team a month after launch

Luna Abyss, developed by Kwalee Labs, lost its entire nine-person development team after staff were made redundant on June 16, according to a LinkedIn post by Kwalee Labs CEO Hollie Emery. The single-player action-adventure title launched on Xbox Game Pass, PC and PlayStation 5 on May 21.
Emery confirmed the redundancies in the LinkedIn post and wrote: “Unfortunately as of yesterday, the entire team has been made redundant; a decision that was completely outside of our control. As a result, the entire team are available for work as of today.” She added she was proud of what the small team achieved on Luna Abyss and described the developers as senior, highly skilled professionals with expertise in Unreal Engine.
Emery did not name the party responsible for the redundancies and the company has not released financial details, sales figures or other commercial metrics. Kwalee Labs has not issued further comment on next steps for the studio or on future support and updates for Luna Abyss.
The game received positive reviews at launch and holds a “Very Positive” rating on Steam. The project had been in development for seven years prior to its release. The development team members are now listed as available for work.
