Magicians: Devil’s Deal traps betrayed Victorian magician
At the Xbox Games Showcase, Uppercut Games revealed Magicians: Devil’s Deal, a 2027 first-person game starring betrayed 1890s magician Jacob Menteuro trapped in Theatreland.
Uppercut Games revealed Magicians: Devil’s Deal as a world premiere during the Xbox Games Showcase. The developer presented footage outlining the game’s premise, setting and early mechanics. The title is scheduled for 2027 on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and will be included with Game Pass and support Xbox Play Anywhere.
Players control Jacob Menteuro, a stage magician from 1890s England who was a member of an elite group called the Magic Ring and was betrayed by his colleagues. After a pact with the Devil, Jacob is released into Theatreland, an underground, infernal version of Victorian London where stage magic has become real.
Gameplay is first-person and built around supernatural stage abilities called Tricks. The developer described each Trick as having multiple uses across combat, puzzles and traversal. Examples shown include Levitation, which moves platforms, creates cover and throws objects; card-based attacks that act as razor-sharp projectiles; chains that ensnare enemies; and gravity alteration.
Encounters are presented to reward observation and the combination of Tricks. Players must adapt their approach to progress through levels and defeat the Masters who control different parts of Theatreland.
Theatreland is divided into distinct Realms controlled by the Masters, former Magic Ring colleagues who betrayed Jacob and kept power for themselves. The campaign frames Jacob’s mission as a hunt for those Masters and as a story in which he takes their powers. Oliver Burke, described as the Master of Mentalism, is presented as a recurring antagonist.
The single-player campaign includes exploration, resource collection, interactions with non-player characters and Trick upgrades. Each Master’s Realm features unique hazards and enemy types described by the developer as fanatics and nightmarish performers.
Publisher Focus Entertainment is attached to the project. Uppercut Games used the line ‘Are You Watching Closely?’ in promotional material and said it will release further details ahead of the 2027 launch.
