Maneater 2: Sequel Set for 2027 on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, PC
Tripwire Interactive announced Maneater 2, a sequel to its 2020 open-world RPG, will launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Tripwire Interactive revealed Maneater 2 during Sony’s State of Play broadcast. The studio calls the project a shARkPG and lists development as underway. The game is scheduled to launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, with releases planned for Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Maneater 2 puts players in control of a bull shark inside Neptune’s Kingdom, an invite-only preview of a private-island luxury theme park. Tripwire wrote in its description: “Eat, explore, and evolve as you try to escape an invite-only preview event for Neptune’s Kingdom – an ultra-luxury seaside theme park destined for disaster, where YOU are that disaster.”
Gameplay builds on the first game’s evolution and open-world systems. Players will hunt prey across the park’s marine ecosystem, including pufferfish, jumbo crab, piranha and grouper, and may attack human visitors. Tripwire noted currents, courses and environmental hazards will affect movement and combat.
The park includes large architecture, a thrill ride and food stands such as Mojitodal. Players can explore shallow areas and deeper waters to find secrets, and use the environment to change and grow the shark’s abilities.
The story centers on the park’s advanced marine research and the ethical questions from its experiments. Tripwire described human greed and experimental biology as drivers of dangerous outcomes; the player-controlled shark must exploit the park’s ecosystem to restore balance in favor of nature and escape before an imminent catastrophe. The announcement also confirmed reality TV host Trip Westhaven will appear, voiced by actor Chris Parnell.
Maneater 2 follows Maneater (2020) and the 2021 expansion Maneater: Truth Quest. Tripwire reported the franchise has attracted more than 20 million players worldwide since the expansion’s release. The studio has not provided a specific release date, pricing, editions or platform-specific features. Development is ongoing and further details are expected closer to launch.
