Marathon Season 2 launches June 2 with Night Marsh
Season 2 of Marathon arrives June 2 with the low-light Night Marsh, a defensive Sentinel shell, the Cradle WEAVEworm progression, two new weapons and a free PS5 Open Play Week June 2–9.
Bungie announced Marathon Season 2 will begin June 2 and introduce a low-light Night Marsh zone, a defensive Sentinel shell, a Cradle progression system for WEAVEworms, two new weapons and a PlayStation 5 Open Play Week running June 2–9. The Open Play Week does not require PlayStation Plus and progress made during that period will carry over into Season 2.
Night Marsh is a variant of the Dire Marsh with reduced ambient lighting and areas of near total darkness. Exterior wayfinding lights are fewer, while long sight lines and elevated perches remain. Players will be able to use attached lights on their Runner shells, Darksight scopes and signal flares found in new loot, but visible light can attract enemies. Bungie plans new hostile types tied to an active anomaly in the zone. The developer also reported increased UESC security around the Complex building and did not disclose the reason for the heightened fortification.
The Sentinel shell is a new defensive option focused on controlling space and shaping encounters. Sentinel kits will offer abilities and tools that create defensive cover, provide battlefield intelligence and deploy traps intended to slow or punish attackers. The shell is intended to let players influence fight tempo and steer opponents into unfavorable engagements when used with strategy.
The Cradle adds a seasonal progression layer for WEAVEworms. Players earn WEAVEworm Energy during the season and spend it to advance upgrade paths in the Cradle, unlocking stat increases and new perks. Energy can be refunded at any time by resetting the Cradle, allowing players to reallocate points and try different builds during the season.
Season 2 begins with a full reset of player gear and progression so all runners start on equal footing. New weapons include the KKV, a small-arms SMG for close-range damage, and the D54 Battle Pistol, which includes an integrated red dot optic. The season will also add new mods, cores and implants.
Bungie is adjusting progression and quality-of-life systems: faster faction progression, a larger Vault, refinements to problematic contracts and other updates aimed at smoothing player advancement. The developer also said the Bungie Rewards program will arrive in Marathon during Season 2, enabling players to unlock access to purchasable, game-inspired items by completing in-game challenges, with further details to follow.
The PlayStation 5 Open Play Week runs June 2–9. The full game will be available to try without a PlayStation Plus subscription and any progress earned during the week will carry over into the official Season 2 rollout.
