Marathon Season 2 Adds Night Marsh, New Enemies and Gear

Season 2 launches June 2 with Night Marsh, new enemies, a Runner shell, updated weapons and lighting tools. Open Play Week runs June 2-9; progress will carry over on purchase.

Bungie will launch Marathon Season 2 on June 2. The update adds Night Marsh, a nighttime variant of the Dire Marsh map, new enemy types, a new Runner shell, updated weapons and several lighting and detection tools. An Open Play Week runs June 2-9; progress made during that period will transfer for players who buy the game in Season 2.

Night Marsh reduces facility lighting and introduces pockets of total darkness above and below ground. The change lowers player visibility and adds new threats: the UESC has increased security to protect a previously unreachable top floor of the Complex, and an unidentified enemy type will stalk Runners in dark areas. The map also contains loot that Bungie says will not appear elsewhere on Tau Ceti IV.

New tools intended for low-visibility runs include attached flashlights, signal flares, vector grenades designed to deter enemy movement, rounds that illuminate targets and ping nearby foes, and Darksight scopes that briefly highlight surrounding terrain when aiming down sights. Season 2 also brings a new Runner shell and additional weapon options for different loadouts.

Bungie provided survival guidance for Night Marsh. Well-lit areas do not guarantee safety because enemies in shadow can see illuminated players; using flashlights sparingly can reduce detection. Placing illumination tools at choke points can discourage enemy advances. Vector grenades used with teammates holding sightlines can prevent attackers from approaching. Players who become “revealed” show as very bright on-screen and may draw fire from multiple directions. Developers advise quiet movement and heightened caution when entering exposed areas.

Marathon is a survival-extraction PvP game set on the derelict colony Tau Ceti IV. Players scavenge zones for loot, confront rival crews and UESC forces, and attempt exfil. The game features seasonal progression tied to faction contracts, six equippable Runner shells, moddable weapons and implants, and an endgame mode called the Cryo Archive. Marathon is available on the Microsoft Store for Xbox Series X|S and is accessible through Xbox Game Pass where applicable. Online play requires broadband and may be subject to platform subscription requirements and service availability.
