Marvel’s Wolverine #25 Gets PS5 ‘For the Players’ Variant

Marvel will release a PS5 game variant cover for Wolverine Vol. 8 #25 later this year. The cover uses artwork tied to Insomniac Games’ upcoming PS5 Wolverine title and is presented as a document folder labeled “For the Players.”

The variant will appear on issue #25 of the current series written by Saladin Ahmed. Pre-orders are expected in the coming weeks ahead of the issue’s release later in the year.

The front of the cover is formatted like a file folder with the phrase “For the Players,” a reference to Sony’s PlayStation marketing. The design echoes Wolverine Vol. 2 #50 from 1991, which used a file-style wraparound with Wolverine’s claws appearing to cut through the cover to reveal the art beneath. Marvel’s new variant recreates the file effect while incorporating modern game artwork from Insomniac.

Sony is scheduled to present additional Wolverine material during its State of Play on June 2. The comic variant is part of promotional activity linking the Marvel character to the upcoming PS5 title. Retailers are likely to offer the special cover as a limited or retailer-exclusive edition.

Saladin Ahmed’s run on Wolverine has included multiple cover variants and tie-ins; the folder-style design and the “For the Players” label extend that pattern by aligning the comic series with the console release.
