Marvel’s Wolverine: gameplay, story revealed; PS5 pre-orders open
Insomniac revealed extended gameplay and story at State of Play, opened PlayStation 5 pre-orders and set a September 15, 2026 release with early pre-order bonuses.
Insomniac Games presented extended gameplay and story details for Marvel’s Wolverine during PlayStation’s State of Play and opened pre-orders for the PlayStation 5. The studio set the release date for September 15, 2026, and noted disc pre-orders will begin in Thailand on June 4, 2026. Insomniac described the title as ‘brutal, violent, and action-packed’ in its announcement.
The single-player action game centers on James “Logan” Howlett as he tracks a group of mutants captured by the Reavers, a cybernetic mercenary force contracted to deliver the prisoners to industrialist Bolivar Trask. The trailer introduces Jean Grey as a telekinetic leader among the captured mutants. Logan reappears with Team X after a three-year absence as the group works to protect hidden mutants.
Gameplay footage emphasizes close-quarters claw combat mixed with stealth and aerial ambushes. Combat is built around unlockable Techniques such as Tornado Spin and Bull Rush, parries, finishing moves called Critical Strikes, and a Rage meter that powers stronger attacks and triggers Wolverine’s Healing Factor. If Rage reaches its maximum, the game presents a stylized Rage Tier 3 sequence influenced by the Black, White, and Blood comics. A Last Stand mechanic allows recovery from near-defeat by activating regeneration.
Jean Grey’s telekinetic abilities support combined takedowns and alter encounter dynamics. Shown set pieces include a highway motorcycle sequence where Logan slashes tires, fights on moving vehicles and confronts heavily augmented Brutes. The trailer also teases additional enemy types and characters, including what appears to be Sabretooth.
Pre-orders are available on the PlayStation Store and through participating retailers for a PS5 exclusive. Early pre-order bonuses are an Early Access Classic Brown suit, Reflective Claws, one additional Technique point and four PlayStation avatars. Insomniac noted these cosmetic items do not affect progression. The Digital Deluxe Edition is listed at SGD 99.90, MYR 399, IDR 1,349,000 and THB 2,690 and includes the game, all pre-order bonuses, five exclusive suits (Incredible, Savage, Age of Apocalypse, Night Hunt and New Leather), five exclusive claw variants and three extra Technique points. Standard disc prices listed for several regions include SGD 89.80, MYR 299, IDR 1,169,000, THB 2,290, PHP 4,099 and VND 1,799,000. The studio said many suits and claw variants will also be unlockable through normal in-game progression.
Insomniac confirmed the game will launch with accessibility options covering cognitive, visual, auditory and motor needs and directed players to its support site for a full list of features. The studio indicated further information will be released on the road to launch.
