Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 update adds QSSR upscaling

Insomniac Games released update v1.002.000 for Marvel’s Wolverine, now available to all PS5 players. The free patch adds Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) upscaling to the base PS5 and resolves multiple UI, photo mode, accessibility and localization issues.

QSSR is an AI-driven upscaling system derived from the PSSR upscaling used on the PS5 Pro. The feature was developed as part of Project Amethyst in collaboration with AMD. On the base PS5, QSSR sharpens distant textures, reduces aliasing at range and increases pixel-level clarity on 4K displays, producing a more stable image across the game’s graphical modes.

Marvel’s Wolverine launched in September with several rendering options on the base PS5, including performance, improved ray tracing and a balanced mode that uses variable refresh rate. On the PS5 Pro the game offered Performance Pro and Fidelity Pro modes plus an advanced ray tracing option, all using PSSR upscaling. Adding QSSR to the base PS5 provides an upscaling option similar in purpose to the Pro feature.

QSSR applies spectral analysis and trained upscaling models to reconstruct sharper frames at a higher effective resolution without requiring additional raw GPU power. Players must enable QSSR separately from the in-game menu after installing the update.

Sony and Insomniac indicated QSSR support will roll out to more titles. Ghost of Yōtei is receiving the same enhancement and further games are expected to follow.
