Matt Ryan: Black Flag Resynced Adds Depth
Matt Ryan returned to voice Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, saying newly written story scenes deepen the character and expand the main plot.
Matt Ryan returned to voice Edward Kenway for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced and recorded newly written story scenes for the remake. The game is scheduled to launch on July 9 for PlayStation 5.
He described the recording sessions as “a strange and wonderful and nostalgic and beautiful experience,” and said slipping back into the role felt familiar.
He noted his voice is slightly lower now, but added that his acting training helped him adjust and deliver the new dialogue.
The Resynced edition includes both character-focused outings and added plot elements. Ryan called the new passages vivid, saying they “jumped off the page” and add depth to Kenway and to the story rather than simply filling runtime.
Developers reworked pacing in the Resynced edition. Some players have raised questions about how those pacing adjustments will affect the game’s flow.
Ryan expressed enthusiasm for players who experienced the original game, and said he expects returning audiences to encounter additional context for Kenway’s arc and continuity in the voice cast.
Players will be able to assess how the new scenes fit with the rest of the game when Black Flag Resynced releases on July 9 for PS5.
