Maverick Games to Reveal PS5 Open-World Racer June 2
Former Forza Horizon leads Maverick Games set a YouTube countdown to reveal an open-world PS5 racer on June 2 at 6 a.m. EDT, about 12 hours before Sony’s State of Play.
Maverick Games posted a countdown on its official YouTube page that expires June 2 at 6 a.m. EDT (11 a.m. BST). The studio labels the project as an open-world racing title for the PlayStation 5.
The studio was founded by Mike Brown, who served as a director on Forza Horizon 5. Its team includes other former creative leads from Forza Horizon and Playground Games.
Job postings and past interviews list narrative elements for the project. Maverick has hired writer Jamie Brittain, known for the television series Skins, to work on the game’s script.
Maverick received initial funding from Amazon and later became independent after the retailer reduced its game investments.
The countdown ends roughly 12 hours before Sony’s scheduled State of Play broadcast on June 2. Maverick and Sony have not confirmed any partnership or platform exclusivity for the title.
Maverick has not specified the format of the reveal. Details such as additional platforms, release window, gameplay features, multiplayer options, customization systems, driving physics and post-launch support remain unconfirmed ahead of the announcement.
The studio’s next public update will arrive when the YouTube timer reaches zero.
