Over an hour of Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay runs on PS5

More than an hour of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots gameplay running on PlayStation 5 was posted online, showing the opening act of the game ahead of its Aug. 27, 2026 release as part of Master Collection Vol. 2.

The footage shows the PS3-era stealth title running on PS5 hardware with a higher resolution and smoother frame pacing. The re-release preserves the original game’s assets, cinematics and core gameplay rather than rebuilding visuals or systems. Viewers identified modest updates such as a revised main menu and save/load screens; in-game elements including the iPod and the “No Place for Hideo” box remain present.

Master Collection Vol. 2 will release on Aug. 27, 2026 for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. The collection includes Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker, plus a selection of extras carried over from the original releases. Peace Walker’s cooperative modes are retained in the package. Metal Gear Online is not part of the collection. Content originally bundled with MGS4, including Assassin’s Creed–related material, is included.

A preview posted alongside the footage described the update as focused on making the PS3 title playable on current hardware through a resolution boost and improved frame rate rather than a full remaster.

Viewers examined the video to note preservation choices and small changes. Because Metal Gear Solid 4 was previously a PS3 exclusive, the re-release will allow more players to run the game on current-generation consoles without legacy hardware.
