Microsoft to Reevaluate Exclusivity After Hellblade II PS5 Profit
Microsoft will reassess Xbox exclusivity as Ninja Theory reports a £5 million profit and calls the PS5 release of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II ‘successful’.
Microsoft will reassess its approach to first-party exclusivity under new Xbox lead Asha Sharma, while Ninja Theory reports a profit tied to the PlayStation 5 version of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.
Asha Sharma wrote that Microsoft will ‘reevaluate our approach to exclusivity’ as part of efforts to sharpen the Xbox brand. The company has previously allowed several first-party titles to appear on PlayStation 5.
Ninja Theory’s financial accounts dated May 10 record a £5 million profit and reference the ‘successful release of Hellblade II on PlayStation 5.’ The studio noted it is now focusing on ‘future project work.’ The filings did not include detailed sales or unit figures for the PS5 edition.
Hellblade II launched initially on Xbox platforms with a quieter debut. The PS5 Enhanced edition arrived last year and provided an additional release window for the title; Ninja Theory did not provide a breakdown of revenue by platform.
Microsoft has previously released high-profile Xbox games on PlayStation. The PlayStation version of Forza Horizon 5 added more than five million purchases to the series’ sales total. Microsoft has confirmed Forza Horizon 6 will also come to PS5, with the PlayStation release scheduled later in 2026 than the Xbox Series X|S and PC versions.
Other Microsoft-owned or published games that have appeared in PlayStation sales charts include Oblivion Remastered, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and DOOM: The Dark Ages.
Ninja Theory remains part of Microsoft, and its public filings provide a specific example of a PS5 port appearing alongside a reported profit. Microsoft has not announced a company-wide policy on which titles will be made multi-platform or the timing of such ports.
