Microsoft releases Xbox Godot sample on GitHub

Microsoft has published a source-only Xbox Godot sample on GitHub that demonstrates how to integrate the Microsoft GDK, Xbox Services, PlayFab and GameInput to build Godot games for Xbox on PC. The sample is available as a working reference and includes modular integration code and usage examples.

The repository shows how to connect Microsoft GDK platform services with Xbox Services, how to use PlayFab Core and PlayFab multiplayer features including lobbies, matchmaking and parties, and how to implement PlayFab Game Saves. The package also includes GameInput integration that bridges to Godot’s Input and InputMap systems to support sign-in flows and gamepad controller functionality.

Microsoft states the sample is compatible with the April 2026 GDK release. The wrapper layer of the sample is offered under the MIT license. The Microsoft GDK and PlayFab SDKs remain subject to their own installation steps and license acceptance and are not included in the repository.

The project is a source-only reference rather than a commercial product. It targets Xbox on PC specifically and does not include support for Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One; developers working on those consoles are advised to consult their Xbox representative.

The company will monitor the GitHub repository and address issues where appropriate but does not commit to a formal update cadence or commercial release schedule. Microsoft invited developers to file issues, submit pull requests and report how they use the code in real projects.

In the project’s announcement, Microsoft wrote, “We love the Godot community. Open-source, lightweight, and powered by passionate developers – it’s the kind of ecosystem that aligns naturally with where we’re heading at XBOX.” The announcement also included links to the GitHub sample and documentation for required dependencies.

Godot is a free, open-source game engine used by independent developers and small studios. Microsoft has previously published integration samples for other engines and toolchains; this release provides a starting point for developers who want to add sign-in, controller support, cloud saves and multiplayer services to Godot projects targeting Xbox on PC.
