Mina the Hollower launches on Xbox, tops Metacritic 2026

Mina the Hollower launched on Xbox Series X|S on May 29 and is available on PC. The title is priced at $19.99 at launch.

The PC version has a Metacritic aggregate score of 93, which currently places it above other games released in 2026 on that site.

Critics highlighted the game’s design, combat systems and value. Reviews described a dense, open-feeling world presented in an 8-bit gothic visual style and a top-down perspective. The map is compact but contains multiple secrets and optional content intended to extend playtime.

The game includes modifiers and a New Game+ mode. Difficulty settings are adjustable, and reviewers singled out short, gauntlet-style encounters and a toolkit of items and abilities that encourage experimentation within combat and exploration.

Yacht Club Games, the studio behind Shovel Knight, described Mina the Hollower before launch as “one of the greatest top-down adventures ever.” The release represents the studio’s shift from side-scrolling platforming to a classic top-down action-adventure format while adding modern systems such as modifiers and a replay-focused New Game+.

Several reviews awarded the game top scores and others gave high marks, contributing to the current Metacritic aggregate. Early critical coverage and the game’s price point have driven interest among players and on-platform discussions on Xbox and PC.
