Chaos Cubed Arrives June 16; Dappled Forest and Film Cast

Mojang announced Chaos Cubed will launch June 16, 2026; it adds sulfur cubes, new cave features and the Dappled Forest biome, and reconfirms Minecraft Dungeons II for Switch platforms.

Mojang announced the details at its Minecraft Live showcase during TwitchCon Rotterdam. The Chaos Cubed update will arrive on consoles, PC and other supported platforms on June 16, 2026.

Mojang described a new passive mob, the sulfur cube: “Sulfur cubes are passive mobs that spend their time aimlessly jumping around in sulfur caves — that is until you feed them a block.” Developers said sulfur cubes can ingest a variety of blocks, each changing the cube’s physical behavior. Players can make a cube fly, bounce or slide by feeding different blocks; feeding TNT or magma produces distinct effects. A bucket can scoop a sulfur cube and place it in a player’s inventory for transport.

The update adds sulfur cave environments with spikes, springs and geysers, new block sets and a new music disc titled “Bounce.” Additional cosmetic and building items will arrive with the release.

Mojang also introduced the Dappled Forest biome. It includes new wool stairs and slabs and abandoned camps. Testing for the Dappled Forest is scheduled to begin this summer, with developers gathering player feedback during the trial.

A LEGO Chicken Mounts add-on is available now on the Minecraft Marketplace, allowing players to ride, customize and fight while mounted on LEGO-styled chickens.

On Minecraft Dungeons, Mojang reconfirmed that Minecraft Dungeons II remains on track for a 2026 release on the Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Switch 2. Preview footage showed both familiar and new biomes, a new story and, for the first time in the Dungeons series, levels set in the Deep Dark. Developers introduced a new boss, the Twisted Warden, described as slow-moving but powerful.

The studio shared details about the feature film sequel, now titled Minecraft Squared. Kirsten Dunst is confirmed to play the character Alex. No release date for the film was announced.

These announcements were part of the studio’s annual Minecraft Live showcase at TwitchCon Rotterdam, where Mojang outlined upcoming game content, expansions and related media projects.
