Minecraft Dungeons II adds Overworld, gear slots and co-op

Minecraft Dungeons II launches Sept. 29 with a persistent Overworld, four armor slots, three talisman slots, a jump mechanic, local and online co-op and release on multiple platforms including Game Pass.

Published by Xbox Game Studios, Minecraft Dungeons II will be released Sept. 29 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and cloud, and included with Xbox Game Pass. The game will also be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The title is offered in a standard edition and a Deluxe Edition; the base edition is listed at $29.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $49.99, which includes four hero skins, the Soul cape, the Blub pet companion and the first two DLC drops when released.

The sequel replaces the original’s discrete mission selection with a contiguous Overworld that connects dungeons on a single map. A jump mechanic has been added to change movement and exploration options within environments. Combat and character advancement remain driven by gear rather than fixed classes.

Players equip a melee and a ranged weapon, three artifact slots for active abilities, four armor slots and three talisman slots for passive bonuses. Weapon enchantments, artifacts and talismans can be combined to shape builds, including options that summon companion minions or create effects such as area healing when enemies die.

A pre-release demo included a cave mission that ended with a boss encounter against the Twisted Warden, a larger variant of the Warden enemy. The demo featured common mob types including slimes, skeletons, spiders and illagers, as well as environmental hazards such as collapsing cave floors. The presentation highlighted lighting changes, contrasting outdoor sunlight with interior torchlight and bioluminescent effects in subterranean areas.

Multiplayer supports up to four players in local couch co-op, online sessions with friends and matchmaking with others. Character builds and equipped gear persist across the Overworld, allowing players to retain progress and items between sessions. The game’s gear systems are designed to enable cooperative combinations, such as pairing a summoning talisman with a weapon that generates healing zones.

Additional content and purchase options include pre-order cosmetics and the Deluxe Edition that bundles cosmetics and DLC 1 and 2 as released. Xbox Play Anywhere support allows players who buy the game on Microsoft storefronts to play on both console and PC without repurchasing.

Minecraft Dungeons II continues the series’ focus on loot-driven progression and cooperative play while introducing a persistent world, new movement and exploration mechanics and expanded gear customization ahead of its Sept. 29 launch.
