Mixtape Secures Perpetual Music Rights, Will Not Be Delisted

Annapurna Interactive and developer Beethoven & Dinosaur confirmed Mixtape will not be delisted after securing music licenses in perpetuity for the game’s soundtrack.

Publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer Beethoven & Dinosaur confirmed that Mixtape will not face future delisting after the studio secured music licenses in perpetuity. Annapurna wrote on social media: “We heard some people say MIXTAPE would be delisted due to music licenses expiring. That was a lie.”

Creative director Johnny Galvatron confirmed the studio paid extra to obtain permanent rights to the songs used in the game. Those perpetual agreements mean the licensed tracks remain part of Mixtape’s purchase package on PlayStation 5 and other platforms where it is sold, reducing the risk of removal if short-term music deals would have lapsed.

The soundtrack is integrated into the game’s design: protagonist Stacey speaks the selected tracks as part of the dialogue while curating a mixtape for the player. Because the licensed songs are woven into spoken lines and gameplay, the developer chose not to include a streamer mode that would replace or mute music to help creators avoid copyright claims. The permanent licenses preserve the original audio presentation for buyers and content creators.

Licenses for music in games are frequently cleared for limited periods, a practice that has led to titles being altered or removed when agreements expire. By negotiating rights in perpetuity, Beethoven & Dinosaur obtained terms that cover ongoing sales and distribution rather than a fixed-term use. Galvatron noted the decision to invest in long-term rights was aimed at keeping the soundtrack intact for current and future players.

Annapurna’s clarification followed fan concerns that music licenses could expire and force the game off digital stores. Early critical response has highlighted the game’s visuals and soundtrack, with at least one review awarding Mixtape a 9/10.
