Modern Warfare 4 to launch Oct. 23, 2026, with Korea campaign

Activision and Infinity Ward said Modern Warfare 4 arrives Oct. 23, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 with a campaign about a full-scale North Korean invasion.

Activision and developer Infinity Ward will release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Oct. 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will not be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

The single-player campaign centers on a full-scale North Korean invasion that spreads into a wider conflict. Players take the role of Private Park, a South Korean soldier fighting on collapsing front lines, while a parallel storyline follows Captain Price operating outside official channels to pursue a weapon that could shift the balance of power. Campaign missions include trench battles on the Korean Peninsula, close-quarters combat in New York, high-speed chases in Paris, SAS raids in Mumbai, and large-scale assaults to retake occupied cities.

Multiplayer introduces a new system called Ballistic Authority that removes bloom and changes how recoil, weapon handling, audio propagation and visibility work so shots match weapon aim more consistently. Movement has been reworked to expand mantling, climbing, hanging and jumping to give players more options to reposition. The game will launch with 12 core maps and additional dedicated Gunfight maps and Big War maps for vehicle and infantry combat.

A live-fire training map named Kill Block uses modular sections to generate more than 500 configurations. Kill Block will support extended Gunfight formats, including 3v3 and 10v10 team modes, and is designed to change layout between rounds to vary sightlines and cover.

Progression and customization are streamlined. A redesigned Create-a-Class unifies Operators, weapons, equipment and Killstreaks into a single loadout. Gunsmith returns with attachments shared by weapon class, and a new in-game assistant called Gunny offers recommended configurations for close-, mid- and long-range roles. Fully leveled weapons can unlock “Apex Attachments” that alter handling, firing behavior or tactical utility. At max Soldier Rank, players can enter Prestige through Classic Prestige, which resets Create-a-Class for higher XP and exclusive rewards, or Regular Prestige, which restarts rank progression without relocking loadouts.

DMZ returns as an extraction-focused mode where solo players or squads enter a shifting conflict zone to recover advanced military technology. The mode will include dynamic weather, evolving objectives and hostile forces. A first public look at DMZ is scheduled for June 7.

Infinity Ward and Beenox said Modern Warfare 4 is built natively for current-generation consoles and PC and will not support older consoles. PC features include multiple upscaling and frame-generation options, DLSS 4.5 support and expanded real-time ray tracing. The game is being developed natively for Nintendo Switch 2 in partnership with Digital Legends; Switch 2 preorder details will be announced later.

Call of Duty: Warzone will integrate Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression beginning with Season 1. Warzone will no longer be available for new downloads on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting June 4, and the in-game store on those platforms will be removed on June 25. Existing players on those consoles can continue to play until Season 1 launches.

Modern Warfare 4 is available for digital preorder now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Battle.net, Steam and Xbox on PC. Switch 2 preorders will follow later. Development is led by Infinity Ward with support from Beenox, Digital Legends and other Activision studios including Raven, Sledgehammer, Treyarch and High Moon.
