Modern Warfare 4 PS5 Early-Access Beta Opens Aug. 21

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 PS5 beta starts Aug. 21 in early access for pre-orders and beta-code holders, running through Aug. 25 before Weekend Two opens to all players.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta for PlayStation 5 begins Aug. 21 in an early-access window reserved for players who pre-ordered the game or redeemed beta codes. The early-access period runs through Aug. 25; Weekend Two will open the beta to all players after that window.

Players who pre-ordered the digital edition should receive access automatically. Physical-disc buyers can find beta codes printed on retail receipts or sent by email. Additional codes may be distributed through promotions before and during the early-access window.

Weekend One of the beta includes a single-player Campaign mission titled Entrenched, the first time a Call of Duty beta has offered a Campaign mission. The beta also features a Mobility Course, a training facility where players can test movement and shooting speed and track performance.

Multiplayer Weekend One covers player progression from Level 1 to 20. Testers can unlock weapons, equipment, perks, field upgrades, killstreaks and the first five Beta Rewards during the early-access period.

New systems available in the beta include Apex Attachments, which grant effects on fully leveled weapons without occupying an attachment slot, and Gunny, a feature that recommends instant builds from unlocked attachments.

Nineteen multiplayer weapons are available in the early-access beta.

The beta offers six multiplayer modes: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search and Destroy and a new mode called Inflation. Players can compete on five Core 6v6 maps — Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette and Lotus — plus a new adaptive map named Kill Block. Kill Block is a live-fire environment composed of modular battlegrounds that reconfigure every two rounds into new combinations of three interconnected Slabs. The map supports classic 3v3 Gunfight and a new 10v10 variant.

The early-access beta runs Aug. 21–25, 2026. The full game is scheduled to launch on Oct. 23, 2026 for all supported platforms, including PlayStation 5. Activision is using the beta to provide players with an early view of core mechanics and content ahead of the official release.
