Norwegian independent studio Hyper Games has released Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth on PlayStation 5 via the PlayStation Store. The title, priced at $19.99, is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced and follows earlier PC and Nintendo Switch launches in April 2026. The release makes the game available on three platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5.
Players take the role of Moomintroll after he wakes early from winter hibernation to find winter continuing and his family still asleep. The game tasks players with exploring Moominvalley to bring back spring, wake family members and try to bring friend Snufkin home. Gameplay focuses on gentle exploration, light puzzles and helping valley residents.
Hyper Games designed the presentation to resemble an interactive storybook inspired by Tove Jansson’s watercolor art. Environments combine simple 3D shapes with painted 2D elements. The studio used the Unity engine with custom shaders and textures intended to make colors and brushstrokes look soaked into paper.
A technical feature highlighted by the developer is the dynamic snow system. Worlds are built from simple structures covered by a deformable snow layer that responds to characters’ movement. Footsteps leave visible tracks, snow shifts underfoot and can be pushed or displaced, producing varied surface effects.
Players will encounter several established Moomin characters, including Too-Ticky, a figure the studio says was inspired by a real person in Jansson’s life. Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is Hyper Games’ second title based on Jansson’s characters, following Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley.
