Mortal Shell II launches on PS5 with new shells

Cold Symmetry released Mortal Shell II on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 5 today. The game is available on PC and Xbox Series X|S and currently holds an 84 Metacritic score based on published reviews.

Players assume the role of the Harbinger, a character tasked with reclaiming the Undermether’s stolen eggs while facing hostile creatures across a larger open world. The sequel retains the core shell-swapping mechanic from the original and expands the number of playable shells.

The game adds more weapon types and strategic options for combat. Developers removed the stamina meter used in the first title and redesigned combat to place greater emphasis on actively switching shells during encounters. The sequel also adjusts pacing and includes quality-of-life changes aimed at broader accessibility.

Pre-release reviews gave positive coverage to the PC and PS5 builds, contributing to the 84 aggregate score on Metacritic. The PlayStation Store lists Mortal Shell II in three editions: the base PS5 version at $49.99, the Devout Edition at $59.99, and a Devout upgrade for owners of the base game at $10.99. The Devout Edition includes a set of eight Obsidian Shell skins. On the PlayStation Store the base game shows a 4.61 user rating from more than 4,500 ratings.
