Motorslice joins Xbox Game Pass; movement praised, controls faulted
Indie parkour title Motorslice arrived on Xbox Game Pass May 5. Early reviews praise movement, level design and atmosphere while noting inconsistent controls and a thin narrative.
Motorslice, an indie parkour action game from Regular Studio, was added to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on May 5. The game is also available for purchase on the Xbox Store for under $20 and is an Xbox Play Anywhere release, which provides a PC copy to players who buy the console version.
Players control a character called P as she runs, climbs, slides, wall-runs and uses a chainsaw to traverse a ruined megastructure filled with traps and large opponents. Levels alternate between tight, linear platforming and larger open areas with boss encounters. Combat includes quick strikes and a parry mechanic intended to complement the traversal-focused design.
Early reviews emphasize the core movement and level layouts. Several assessments describe the movement as weighty and deliberate, with momentum and transitions that reward precision. One review said the level design “begs to be explored” and highlighted the game’s art direction and sound design as elements that support the traversal experience.
At the same time, multiple reviewers reported issues with control responsiveness and input registration. Critics noted occasions when intended actions did not occur or inputs triggered unexpected moves, disrupting flow in precise platforming sections. Combat was described as serviceable but simple, and some reviewers pointed to a narrow timing window on the parry system. Several assessments called the narrative thin and said story elements did not match the strength of movement and level design.
Critical scores vary. The PlayStation 5 version holds an early Metacritic average of 75. There are not yet enough reviews to produce Metacritic averages for the PC and Xbox versions.
Motorslice is available now on Xbox Game Pass and for purchase on the Xbox Store. Review coverage will likely expand as more players access the game through the subscription service.
