Muramasa: Revenant Blades coming to Switch in early 2027

Vanillaware’s Muramasa: Revenant Blades, a remaster of Muramasa: The Demon Blade, arrives on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in early 2027 with up to 4K support and revised combat.

Vanillaware’s Muramasa: Revenant Blades is a remaster of the 2009 action RPG Muramasa: The Demon Blade. It will launch on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in early 2027 with support for up to 4K resolution and revised combat systems. The release packages content from the game’s 2013 PlayStation Vita re-release.

The project is developed by Vanillaware and published by Marvelous. Marvelous describes Revenant Blades as an expanded edition of the Vita remaster Muramasa Rebirth and includes characters and downloadable content introduced in that version. Vanillaware’s president indicated the studio resolved obstacles that had previously prevented another re-release.

Planned technical and gameplay updates include higher-resolution output, updated weapon mechanics and additional modes. Players can forge more than 100 swords, develop dozens of upgradeable skills and choose among variable play styles. All six playable storylines are available from the start: original protagonists Momohime and Kisuke alongside Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru and Rajaki from the Vita edition.

Marvelous’ press materials note a new localization that adds English voiceover and describe the package as a complete version of the title. The publisher also outlined modes intended to give players alternate ways to view the game’s animations and art.

Revenant Blades is scheduled for release in early 2027 on both current and next-generation Nintendo Switch hardware. Physical pre-orders are expected soon. Marvelous lists a Standard Edition at €49.99 / £44.99 and a Deluxe Edition at €69.99 / £59.99, with the Deluxe including an artbook. Retail listings also reference a PlayStation 5 version.

A trailer released with the announcement shows gameplay and visual footage. Marvelous and Vanillaware indicated they will publish further details on pre-order dates and edition contents ahead of the launch.
