N sequel targets multiplayer on Nintendo’s Switch 2
Metanet Software announced a multiplayer sequel to N for Nintendo’s Switch 2, focusing on local and online competitive and cooperative play while keeping the series’ precise movement and controls.
Metanet Software announced a multiplayer-focused sequel to its parkour platformer N for Nintendo’s Switch 2. The game shifts the series from single-player speedruns to shared play, with both local and online modes planned.
Players can race through obstacle-filled levels against each other, cooperate on team challenges, and build custom stages to share. The developer plans leaderboards and matchmaking to support repeated competitive play and to make finding opponents easier on the new hardware.
Metanet outlined that the sequel will target smoother frame rates and larger, more complex arenas than earlier entries while retaining the minimalist controls and physics-based movement that defined the original N and N++. The team expects tighter input responsiveness and reduced latency in online matches to preserve the precise timing central to the series’ mechanics.
No release window or price was announced. The project is in active development for Switch 2 and Metanet indicated it is exploring cross-platform features where feasible. The studio is testing multiple multiplayer modes internally and will publish more details, including a launch date and platform-specific features, later.
The developer is building a level editor for community creation, expanded avatar customization, and tools for hosting private matches. Creator-made stages will be discoverable through an in-game browsing system and the editor will support both race-style courses and puzzle-oriented challenges.
Single-player content will remain available, but much of the development work has focused on ensuring multiplayer modes feel responsive and competitive.
N began as a minimalist Flash game and evolved into commercial titles N and N++, which were noted for tight controls, fast pace and active user-created level communities. The franchise has a following among speedrunners and platforming players. Metanet’s announcement is the first time the series is being marketed with multiplayer as a central feature for a console launch.
